Ismael Saibari scored after just 71 seconds, the fastest goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as Morocco defeated Scotland 1-0 in a tense Group C encounter at Boston Stadium on Friday.

The early strike proved decisive. Saibari, assisted by Brahim Díaz, latched onto a through ball after Scotland defender Grant Hanley stepped up prematurely and powered home a clinical finish. Morocco, semi-finalists in 2022, controlled much of the match with superior possession and pressing, limiting Scotland to no shots on target until late.

Scotland rallied after the interval, dominating late possession and creating pressure, but could not convert. Claims for two penalties, including a late challenge on John McGinn, were waved away.

The result leaves Morocco top of Group C with four points from two matches (one win, one draw), nearing knockout qualification. Scotland sit on three points after their opening victory over Haiti and must now face Brazil in their final group game in Miami. A positive result there could still secure historic progression to the round of 32.

Saibari, who also scored against Brazil, continues his strong tournament form ahead of a reported move to Bayern Munich. Morocco's defensive solidity and quick transitions frustrated the Tartan Army, despite their vocal support in Boston.
