This beautiful declaration comes from Nahum, a prophet whose message often emphasised God's justice and power. Yet in the midst of that message shines this tender reminder of God's goodness and care.
The verse begins with a simple but profound truth: “The Lord is good.” God's goodness is not dependent on circumstances. He remains good in times of abundance and in seasons of difficulty. His character never changes.
Nahum then describes God as “a refuge in times of trouble.” A refuge is a place of safety, shelter, and protection. When life's storms rage, God invites us to run to Him rather than away from Him. He is a secure shelter for weary hearts.
The verse concludes with a deeply personal promise: “He cares for those who trust in Him.” God does not merely know about your struggles—He cares about them. He sees your prayers, understands your burdens, and remains attentive to every detail of your life.
Today, rest in the assurance that God is both your refuge and your caretaker. Whatever challenge you face, His goodness is greater, His protection is sure, and His care is constant.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your goodness, Your protection, and Your unfailing care. When troubles arise, help me to run to You as my refuge and not rely on my own strength.
Strengthen my trust in You and remind me daily that You care for every detail of my life. Let Your peace fill my heart and Your presence surround me.
May I remain confident in Your goodness and faithful in seeking You, knowing that You are my safe place and my strong defender, in Jesus' name, Amen.
