Sowore's AAC seeks approval to inaugurate campaign council in Aso Villa

The African Action Congress (AAC) has formally requested approval from President Bola Tinubu to hold the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, Abuja.

In a letter dated October 21, 2026 and signed by National Secretary Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, the party said it wants to stage the ceremony on November 11, 2026 in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The AAC also requested provision of food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected from within Nigeria and abroad.

The letter, which was shared on Wednesday by the party's presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, was titled: _“Request for Approval to Hold the Inauguration of the AAC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa and for Logistical Support.”

“On behalf of the African Action Congress (AAC), I respectfully write to request approval to hold the inauguration ceremony of our Presidential Campaign Council on the 11th of November 2026 at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, in preparation for the 2027 general elections,” the letter read.

The party said the request was anchored on principles of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties.

“In the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties, we also request the provision of food, drinks, and other logistical support for participants at the event, consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement.”

“We believe that granting this request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access, and the principle that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination,”

The AAC argued that the Presidency should inform it of the applicable procedures and conditions for approval.

The request comes days after President Tinubu inaugurated the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on October 14, 2026. The AAC cited that event as precedent, saying public institutions should not operate in the interest of one political party.

Sowore, a human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, is the AAC’s consensus candidate for the 2027 election. He previously contested in 2019 and 2023.
