In a dramatic escalation of the internal power struggle within the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), the National Executive Council (NEC) has suspended the association’s National President, Pretty Okafor, with immediate effect.
The decision was formalised during an emergency NEC meeting held late Christmas night, December 25, 2025. The council moved swiftly to appoint Sydney Sparrow, the PMAN President for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as the Acting National President to oversee the association's operations during an impending investigation.
According to an official communiqué signed by the National Treasurer, Baba Ojonugwa, the suspension stems from a litany of "serious governance and constitutional concerns". The NEC accused Okafor of repeated violations of the association’s constitution, abuse of office, and a blatant disregard for due process.
Specific allegations include the unilateral appointment of vice presidents without the constitutionally required NEC approval and the unlawful removal of the National Treasurer after he requested financial audits. The council described these actions as "detrimental to the welfare, credibility, and integrity of PMAN."
"The decision was reached to address serious governance and constitutional concerns affecting the association," Ojonugwa stated in the release. "Acting in line with the powers vested in it by the PMAN Constitution, the NEC resolved to suspend the President pending the outcome of a full investigation and disciplinary process."
Beyond the suspension, the NEC issued a series of corrective resolutions. These include the immediate voiding of all appointments made by Okafor without council endorsement and the formal reinstatement of the National Treasurer. Furthermore, the council has ordered a forensic audit of PMAN’s financial accounts and existing joint venture agreements to ensure transparency.
