President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to various foreign missions and the United Nations, ending months of anticipation following their Senate confirmation last December. The deployment consists of 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career appointees who will represent Nigeria's interests across Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

The Presidency confirmed that the administrative process for the transitions is already underway. In a statement released Friday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the United Kingdom and France have already granted agrément—the formal diplomatic consent—for their respective envoys.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu," Onanuga stated. "Similarly, France has sent the agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke."

The list of non-career postings features several prominent political figures and former officials. Notable assignments include former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, former presidential aide Reno Omokri to Mexico, and former Minister of Interior Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to China. Additionally, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has been designated as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

To ensure a seamless transition into their new roles, the President has ordered an immediate orientation for the envoys. According to the official State House release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is directed to "immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners" before they depart for their respective posts.

While the UK and France have cleared their designated representatives, the Nigerian government has formally requested agréments for the remaining 62 envoys from their host nations. This move is expected to fill the diplomatic vacuum created after the administration recalled the previous envoys in late 2023 to streamline Nigeria's foreign representations.
