President Donald Trump declared on Friday that the United States will accept nothing less than the "unconditional surrender" of the Iranian government, abruptly dismissing reports of emerging mediation efforts to end the week-old military conflict.
The ultimatum, delivered via Truth Social, marks a significant hardening of the administration's objectives following the February 28 launch of "Operation Lion’s Roar". The joint U.S.-Israeli campaign has already resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the reported destruction of 80 per cent of Iran’s air defence systems.
"There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!" Trump wrote on Friday morning. He further asserted that the U.S. would play a direct role in installing a "GREAT & ACCEPTABLE" new leadership, specifically labelling the late Supreme Leader’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as a "lightweight" who is "unacceptable" to Washington in an interview with Axios.
The President’s demand followed a statement by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who claimed that several neutral nations had begun mediation efforts to broker a ceasefire. Trump countered this by promising that once the current regime capitulates, the U.S. and its allies will work to "Make Iran Great Again (MIGA!)", focusing on rebuilding the country's shattered economy.
In Tehran, officials responded with defiance. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters that Iran "does not seek a ceasefire" and warned that Iranian forces are prepared for a potential ground invasion. "We are waiting for them", Araghchi told NBC News, adding that any American ground presence would result in a "big disaster" for U.S. troops.
The Pentagon and Israeli Defence Forces have confirmed that the conflict has entered a new phase targeting Iran’s industrial and missile production capabilities. IDF Chief of Staff Major General Eyal Zamir reported Thursday that coalition aircraft have conducted over 2,500 strikes since the start of the operation.
