Rice Strikes Late as Arsenal Hold Bayern in 2-2 Champions League Thriller

Arsenal recovered from losing Bukayo Saka to injury to earn a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich in the Champions League league phase on Wednesday night at the Allianz Arena.

Declan Rice scored an 82nd-minute equalizer to rescue a point for the Gunners after Harry Kane had put Bayern ahead from the penalty spot.

Eberechi Eze had given Arsenal the lead in the 25th minute, replacing the injured Saka who hobbled off after just eight minutes. Alphonso Davies levelled for Bayern before Kane converted a penalty following a handball by Jurriën Timber, according to Fox Sports.

Kane’s goal was his 10th consecutive Champions League match with a goal, moving him within one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 11 straight games set in 2017 and 2018. The strike was also his 16th in 23 career matches against Arsenal, Fox Sports reported. The England striker also created Bayern’s first equaliser.

Rice’s late finish came after linking with substitute Viktor Gyökeres to beat Manuel Neuer, capping a resilient display from Mikel Arteta’s side. The result extends Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the league phase to 15 matches.

The draw was tarnished for Arsenal by Saka’s early exit. Arteta said the winger left the stadium on crutches. “They are a bit concerned. A player who has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news,” Arteta was quoted as saying.

Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain continue to lead the league-phase standings after the third round of fixtures.
