Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, hosted a delegation of United States Congressional officials in Abuja on Sunday, December 7, 2025, as part of ongoing talks to expand security collaboration between the two countries. This visit followed earlier meetings held in Washington, DC, focusing on shared security concerns.
Ribadu conveyed the purpose of the meeting on his official X (formerly Twitter) account: “This morning, I received a US Congressional delegation on a fact-finding mission to Nigeria, following our earlier engagements in Washington, DC, on shared security priorities.” The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, also attended the discussions.
The meeting concentrated on advancing counter-terrorism cooperation, improving regional stability, and reinforcing the strategic security alliance between Nigeria and the United States. Ribadu expressed optimism that the engagement would foster deeper trust and cooperation. “I am optimistic that this engagement will deepen trust, collaboration, sharing commitment to peace and security,” he said.
Earlier, on November 20, NSA Ribadu held talks with US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon. Those discussions aimed to coordinate strategies to tackle security threats affecting Nigeria and other global regions.
